Employee of the Month: Trevor!

Posted on 20 Mar 2013 In: Specials

So here at Pet-Vet we have started something new!  We will now be having an employee of the month contest and our first winner is Trevor Hudson.  Of course, every one of our employees is awesome in their own way but this is a way to pick out those who go above and beyond the call of duty.  We love to encourage our customers if you are impressed with one of our employees, find Becky and let her know!  We love to hear your stories! Our winner this month, Trevor, is always smiling, helpful to all of our customers and has those muscles to carry that dog food out going that extra step.  I sat down with him and asked him a couple questions and here is what he had to say:

photo

Coco: How long have you worked at Pet-Vet Supply?

Trevor: 8 months

Coco: How many animals do you have at home and what are their names?

Trevor: I have one dog and his name is Ace. He is a chihuahua/jack russell mix.  He was actually left at Pet Vet by his owner and was here for almost 3 months until I met him and decided to welcome him into my home.  I couldnt be happier with him!

Coco: What is the question you get asked most at Pet-Vet and what is your response?

Trevor: Everyone has been asking me “when is your next vaccination clinic?” and lucky for them I can tell them we have one coming up this weekend where Rabies and the Booster shot are only $25 AND all of our Flea & Tick Products are Buy 2 Get 1 FREE!  People like it when I tell them that!

Coco: What is one thing you love about Pet-Vet?

Trevor: The people!

Coco: What did you first think when you met me?

Trevor: I remember thinking I hope she doesn’t bite me and I hope she likes me!

Of course I like you Trevor, you take me outside when I need to potty and you play with me and sneak me treats when mom isn’t looking!  We are BFFs!  Trevor, thank you for all your hard work and for helping Pet-Vet be a place where customers come to get exemplary care for the animals in all ways. Be sure to stop by this weekend from 9-4 where we will be having our Spring Vaccination Clinic.  KOMA radio will be out there and we will have reptiles on sale and you can stock up for spring and summer with all our flea and tick products!  We will be there and I hope to see you there too!

Who Let the Dogs Out!

Posted on 8 Mar 2013 In: Specials

Hey everybody!  How have you all been in my absence? I have been so busy getting ready for springtime at Pet-Vet!  Are you ready?  Flea and Tick season is almost upon us!!  Good thing we will have our quarterly sale where all of our Flea & Tick products are Buy 2 Get 1 FREE!  Also during this sale, we will be having our Spring Vaccination Clinic where Dr. Kim, Dr. Fruitt and technicians will be giving the Rabies Vaccine and Combination shot (DHLPPC for dogs and FVRCP for cats) for only $25!  Let everyone you know about this great deal!

I saw my sister, Maya, scratching yesterday, I told mom on her and sure enough it was time for all of our Trifexis pills!  The good thing about Trifexis pills is it will take care of heart-worms, intestinal worms AND fleas!Curious pups  All in one pill! Yes, sometimes I like to give my mom a hard time about taking my pill, but I just do it for fun!  If she mixes it with a little bit of canned food, I’ll eat it right up! Call us for more information about this wonderful product!! This is a picture of my brother Embry, my sister Maya and my friend Holly who are all on Trifexis!  If you get your furry baby started on Trifexis when they are 8 weeks old, continue to have a yearly test and buy Trifexis every 6 months and for some horrible reason your baby gets heart-worms, Elanco (the makers of Trifexis) will pay for up to $800 of treatment.  It is good assurance to keep in mind when thinking about heart-worm prevention as springtime arrives!!

Dental Awareness Month

Posted on 4 Feb 2013 In: Specials

Super CocoHey everybody!  I just can’t believe it is already February in this brand new year!  Boy, time just flies by when you are having fun!  And that is what I am doing for sure.  Just yesterday, I went on two, not one but two, walks with my grandma!  The weather has been so nice for all kinds of adventures outside.  Anyway, what I am here to talk about today is Dental Awareness Month; it is upon us!

Most of us, especially us little guys don’t really see the importance of our moms and dads brushing our teeth.  Really, is there enough room in my little mouth for my teeth, my treat and their fingers, no!  But then, I read up on how many problems plaque, tartar and gingivitis can really cause and it made me beg my mom to get brushing!  Bad breath is usually the first sign that something needs to be done.  There are many options: dental treats that we can chew to help break up plaque and tartar, toothbrushes and toothpaste (in chicken flavors too!) and, if the damage is bad enough, a dental prophy.

This procedure is when we are put under general anesthesia and an ultrasonic cleaner is applied to break up the nasty stuff on our teeth to reveal those pearly whites underneath.  It is an outpatient procedure and most of us can go home that night!  Sometimes, if the problem has gone on too long, a couple teeth may be removed.  Our vets and technicians are all highly trained and are there to help us achieve that photo worthy smile!

Call today to make an appointment to talk to Dr. Kim or Dr. Fruitt about how to get your healthy smile today at 733-4649.  Here is a video showing how to brush your dog’s teeth, check it out!

Meet Dr. Kim!

Posted on 7 Jan 2013 In: Specials

Welcome to 2013 everyone!  What is everyone’s New Year’s Resolution?  I have vowed to try and be nicer to my brother Embry.  Yes he is big and oafy and everything about him screams bully but I am going to try and be nicer to him!  Wish me luck!  Anyway, we are going to  continue with our Q&A with our employees!  This week I watched a movie with Dr. Kim ( Homeward Bound- one of my favorites but I have seen it so many times I know it by heart!) and got to ask her a couple questions. Dr. Kim & Coco

Q: How long have you been with Pet-Vet Supply?
A: Since 2004

Q: How many animals do you have at home?
A: 2 dogs: Gurley, a 6 year old Boston Terrier and Angel, a 9 year old Pit Bull and we also raise pigs at a farm in Pauls Valley.  Oh and we can’t forget the 1 mud turtle we have too!

Q: Where did you go to Vet School?
A: Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine

Q: What is your favorite part of your job? Give us one tip that all pet owners should take to heart.
A: That every day is different.  Make sure to get your pets vet care starting with vaccinations as a puppy so they can be with you for a long long time.

Q: What did you first think when you met me?
A: You are just one spoiled rotten puppy!  You had a rough start when your first owner wasn’t able to take care of you but so lucky that you had two sisters who were so ready to open their hearts and home to you!

Well thank you Doc! Dr. Kim has been married to her husband Vance for 15 years and they have a 12-year old son named Gregory who goes to Carl Albert.  I do feel very blessed to have the home that I do!  There are many animals who are not as lucky as I am but be sure to take a look at your local shelters if you are looking for a new family pet!  Pet-Vet is very lucky to have Dr. Kim as part of our awesome vet team duo!

Dr. Fruitt & pup

Meet Carrie!

Posted on 17 Dec 2012 In: Specials

Hey everybody!  Who is ready for Christmas?  I know I am!  I am anxiously awaiting all the presents my loyal fans will bring me! Well, the next couple weeks I am going to introduce you to people of Pet-Vet Supply!  Today we will be learning about our grooming manager, Carrie!  I sat down with Carrie, she fed me treats and I had a chance to ask her couple questions. Here are her answers: Carrie & Coco

Q: How long have you been with Pet-Vet Supply?
A: Since November of 2009, when the grooming salon opened.

Q: How many animals do you have at home?
A: 2 South African Boerboels and 2 Persian cats.

Q: How long have you been a groomer?
A: 24 years in January 2013

Q: What is your favorite part of your job? What is the one thing you wish people would know about grooming?
A: I love my co-workers, we all work as a team.  My absolute favorite is starting a puppy and seeing them grow up.  I would let everyone know what professional groomers can do for their pet that you can’t always do at home.

Q: What did you first think when you met me?
A: You were a hot mess . . . I was so glad your mom gave me the go ahead to give you a haircut.  You needed your own style!  I think you turned out quite adorable!

Well thank you Carrie, I think I am pretty adorable as well!  For anyone who wants to meet Carrie, she is at Pet-Vet Grooming salon Monday thru Friday grooming all the cute cuddly animals that are brought to her everyday!  Have a good week!  Only 8 days till Christmas!

Who has the best vets in town? WE DO!

Posted on 10 Dec 2012 In: Specials

Hey everyone!  I want to tell you a little story about my friend Gertrude and about the hard work and dedication Pet-Vet Animal Clinic gave to my friend! She is a 6 1/2 year old dachshund who I met while she was recovering from a dog attack.  While going outside to potty, the neighbor’s dog, who was about 50 pounds heavier than she was, broke through the fence and got a hold of her.  When her mom brought her in to Pet-Vet Animal Clinic, she was in shock and had multiple punctures over her body.  It took about 30 stitches and 5 staples to close her wounds and Gertrude spent about a month going back and forth to us at Pet-Vet, recovering and healing. Gertrude in e-collar  Today, she is as happy as can be and comes in to visit once in awhile with her brother, Norbit.  Her mom was so grateful to Pet-Vet and all they did for her baby saying “I can personally testify that you guys went absolutely above and beyond any expectations a person might have for their vet. I actually get a little teary when I think of where she was and how far she has come. There is no way that I could have trusted anyone else to care for her as well as you guys did!” With our two vets on staff and the rest of the staff at the Clinic, we are committed to helping keep you and your furry babies safe and cared for.  This is one story of many who have been helped by Dr. Kim and Dr. Fruitt.  If you haven’t already, come in and meet these two lovely ladies.  I am a big fan of theirs and they are fans of me as well!  They get to flip a coin whenever it comes time to give me my yearly vaccinations because I am such a joy to give shots to!  Ok, maybe sometimes I get a little scared …

Keeping those Furry Babies Healthy!

Posted on 3 Dec 2012 In: Specials

Hi!  Christmas is coming up and will be here before you know it!  I wonder what everyone will get me . . . . I do so love chewy treats, but I also love squishy toys that I can squeak and squeak and squeak until my mommy takes it away from me!  I know when the holidays come around it is getting to be time to do my yearly vaccines.  I’m not scared of them like my big brother, but it is important that everyone knows what to expect after your pet’s vaccinations.  It is common for pets to experience some or all of these side effects after receiving a vaccine:
Skipper

  • Discomfort
  • Mild Fever
  • Decreased Appetite and Activity
  • Persistent Vomiting or Diarrhea
  • Itchy Skin That May Seem “Bumpy”
  • Swelling of the Muzzle and Around the Face, Neck or Eyes
  • Sever Coughing or Difficulty Breathing
  • Collapse

It is important to let your vet know if your furry baby experiences any of these side effects, ESPECIALLY if they last for more than a day or two.  A small, firm swelling under the skin may develop at the site of the vaccine but should start to disappear within a couple weeks.  ALWAYS inform your vet if your furry baby has had a reaction before!  My friend, Skipper, had a reaction after years of getting the same vaccines.  Now, before he goes to get his yearly vaccinations, his mom and dad are sure to give him a Benadryl and he stays for an hour after he gets his shots, just to make sure he is good to go home reaction-free.  Call today with any questions: 733-4649.

Pet Wellness Special

Posted on 27 Nov 2012 In: Specials

Hey everybody!  How was your Thanksgiving?  I may have bartered a couple pieces of turkey from my grandma who spoils me so!! (My mom would kill me if she knew, so don’t tell!!)  All I have to do is look at grandma and lick my lips and then she gives me snacks. Some would say I have her trained, but I know she loves me!  I want to tell you about my two cousins, Daisy and Lilly, who have taken part of the awesome deal that is happening at Pet-Vet until the end of the year. Pups Regular wellness exams allow our vets to evaluate your furry babies and become aware of any health problems before they become serious illnesses.  One year for a dog or cat is equal to five to seven human years, so it is important to remember to have your vet (hopefully one of our great vets!) check out your animals at least once a year and more often when they enter their senior years.  The wellness exams Pet-Vet Animal Clinic is offering include: weight, temperature, body, skin and coat condition, cardiovascular and respiratory function, teeth, gum, ears, eyes and nose condition as well as basic neurological system functions.  Also included in this exam is fecal testing for internal parasites AND heartworm testing (for dogs) and feline leukemia & aids testing (for cats).  Daisy and Lilly have the all clear from both of our vets for another year and so can your animals.  The Pet Wellness Special total regular price is $90, but until the end of the year we have it on special for ONLY $50!  Be sure to call one of our vet-techs to make your appointment today at 733-4649!

Let me tell you about my best friend . . .

Posted on 19 Nov 2012 In: Specials

Baby Jempi with purseGood morning Oklahoma!  I want to tell you a little bit about my best friend, Jempi!  He is a one year old cat. Yes, I am a dog and I know how many cartoons and movies there are about cats and dogs not getting along, but we are best friends!   He lives at my grandma’s house, so I mainly get to see him on the weekends, but when we get together, we have the best time.  We get to wrestle (he usually ends up ripping out my bows because we play so rough) and then we relax and sit in the sun while grandma does her gardening!  We sleep in beds right next to each other and share all the same toys.  He is still very young so he gets in more trouble than I do, being so much more mature than him, but we still have fun!  I was reading this story about an even odder couple than Jempi and me!  A baboon and a kitten were seen together at an Israeli zoo.  Here is a link about the story.  At Pet-Vet, we do a lot of work with different shelters in the area who deal with all sizes of dogs.  If you have ever thought about adopting a new pup or kitten, contact us at Pet-Vet and we can get you in contact with any of these amazing rescues.  The oddest couples make the best of friends sometimes, just like Jempi and me or the baboon and the kitten.  Even if you aren’t 100% sure about adopting, most of the rescues give the option of fostering for a while.  There are so many dogs and cats who need forever homes and what better time than around the holidays now to open your hearts and homes!  Call us with any questions: 405-733-4648.
